The Source is back!
On the 21st March the first Source event since Covid took place at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne. The Source event caters for both young and adult audiences. It is filled with vibrant music, inspiring life stories, moments of reflection and prayer, as well as a chance to socialise and enjoy some complimentary food. Our pupils were full of gratitude for this soul-stirring experience, embracing every moment of the beautiful evening together.
Catholic Life
On Friday 12th May our SVP had the chance to visit our local drop in centre for Refugee and Asylum Seekers at Purple Rose Stockton. The students took with them some donations that they prepared along with preparing and handing out further donations of food and clothing. The students spoke to the people using the centre about their stories and enjoyed sharing stories about their own heritage too.
Our students then went on to serve the food as well as getting to try it for themselves sitting amongst everyone in the community. They really enjoyed ending the evening in the traditional way with a good dance with everyone!
We couldn’t be prouder of our students, especially since they have already asked us to take them back as often as possible so they can continue helping out and volunteering.
A special thank you to Liz our Chaplain, Mrs Parker and Mr Allison for taking time on their Friday evening to take our pupils.
St. Cuthbert's Care Mass
On Wednesday 1st of May pupils from Year 9 and Year 10 represented our school at the Good Shepherd Mass which took place in St. Mary's Cathedral Newcastle upon Tyne. There were pupils and staff representing both primary and secondary schools from across the diocese. St. Mary's secondary school choir led the beautiful music. Pupils gave over their money that was raised during the Lent activities.
I just want to thank our pupils and staff for supporting this very important cause.
Lent Bake Sale
On Friday 1st March the SVP Group hosted our Lent Bake Sale. Lots of pupils and staff donated cakes for the sale which we were so grateful for.
During lent we practice the three pillars ‘pillars’ of Lent. Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.
Almsgiving is simply a response by us to God, a response that we have come to through prayer and fasting. It is an expression of our gratitude for all that God has given us, and a realization that it is never just "me and God." Works of charity and the promotion of justice are integral elements of the Christian way of life and we show this during Lent.
In total we raised £400, all money raised will go to CAFOD who support the poorest in our world. If you would like to check out the work of CAFOD please go to www.cafod.org.uk
Lent Fayres
As well as our Lent Bake Sale pupils and staff from Y7 to Y10 hosted their annual Lent Fayres.
Pupils created their own amazing stalls and together raised an incredible £622 for CAFOD. So much fun was had by everyone.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this amazing cause.
Your generosity and enthusiasm have made a real difference in our community and beyond. Let's continue to spread kindness and compassion whenever we can.
SVP/ Faith in Action
A group of pupils from our SVP group visited Carmel College to take part in a diocesan event which focused on Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si. In Laudato Si, Pope Francis calls us all to be stewards of God's creation. Thank you to Carmel for the invitation to this event.
CAFOD Teach Someone to Read
Pupils show compassion and willingness through school rewards scheme.
We have thanked over 78 of our pupils this academic year for their kind donation of 4750 ClassChart reward point to CAFOD and for living out our school values in such an amazing and generous manner. Pupils are given ClassCharts praise points during lessons and for extra-curricular activities. This group of amazing young people have been willing to donate a large number of their personal points to support those less fortunate, which is a truly inspirational act of kindness.
This is a fabulous, life-changing donation by our pupils which has helped school to fund six CAFODTeach Someone to Read" literacy classes for vulnerable people. Reading opens up so many doors: education, work, pleasure, self-improvement and more. This will make a huge difference and help to shape and change so many lives!
